Sunday Poetry

I saw the empire state building during the hazy golden evening light
arrived at the airport terminal just in time
travelers sucked overpriced coffee through plastic straws
plugged in their laptops
made an office in the only place humans can fly
seated next to the crying passenger who just had to say goodbye
across from the wide eyes of an adult who just saved for a year
to be able to visit her sister in Phoenix
a waiting room where we hover
between the ground and the sky.
